About GED
The GED (General Educational Development) is a high-school equivalency credential accepted by 98% of US colleges, universities and employers. It is taken by adults and older teens who did not complete a traditional high-school diploma. The GED has 4 subject tests — Reasoning Through Language Arts (RLA), Mathematical Reasoning, Science and Social Studies — each scored 100–200. A passing score of 145 on each test earns the credential. Exam structure
Each subject test is taken separately at a testing centre or online (Online Proctored GED). RLA: 150 minutes with a break. Math: 115 minutes (calculator provided from Part 2 onwards). Science: 90 minutes. Social Studies: 70 minutes.
Grading & scoring
Each subject scores 100–200. 145–164 = Passing, 165–174 = College Ready, 175–200 = College Ready + Credit (potentially earns university credit). Overall GED credential requires 145+ on all four subjects.
Exam strategy & time management
- 1Take one subject at a time — you don't need to sit all four in one sitting.
