FBISE — the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Islamabad — conducts SSC (Matric, Class 9–10) and HSSC (Intermediate, Class 11–12) examinations for federal, cadet, garrison and many private schools across Pakistan. Its papers are set to the Federal Board's own scheme of studies, which differs from the provincial BISE boards in paper pattern, marks distribution and the way marks are awarded. Exam structure

FBISE papers are set to the Federal Board scheme of studies and follow a consistent two-part structure. • Objective section: multiple-choice questions, attempted first and collected separately. • Subjective section: short response questions (a choice of items) plus extended/detailed response questions, usually with internal choice. • Science subjects at both SSC and HSSC carry a separate practical examination. • SSC is examined across Class 9 and Class 10; HSSC across Class 11 (1st Year) and Class 12 (2nd Year), by stream — ICS, Pre-Medical, Pre-Engineering or ICom. • Papers are offered in English or Urdu medium depending on the subject.

Grading & scoring

FBISE reports subject-wise marks and a total percentage, with grades assigned on the Federal Board's grading bands. Marking in the subjective section is stepwise.
