What Band 7 actually requires

Band 7 means 'good user' — flexible vocabulary, accurate grammar in most sentences, well-structured writing, and speaking with only occasional hesitation. It is achievable in a month if you already sit comfortably at Band 6.

Week 1 — Diagnostic + reading

Take one full IELTS mock. Note your current band per skill. Then read one broadsheet article per day (The Guardian, The Economist) and summarise it in 5 sentences. Reading fluency underwrites all four skills.

Week 2 — Writing task rubric mastery

Practise Task 2 essays daily. Feed every essay to Jarvis for grading against the official Task Response, Coherence, Lexical Resource and Grammatical Range rubrics. Fix the single lowest criterion each day.

Week 3 — Speaking under pressure

Record yourself answering Part 2 cue cards. Aim for 2 minutes without notes. Use Jarvis's speaking grader to spot filler words, hesitation and grammatical slips.

Week 4 — Full mock tests

Two full mocks under strict timing. Analyse the score gap. Focus your last 3 days on your two weakest sub-skills only. Sleep, water, arrive early.
