The 6-Month GCSE Revision Timeline (Jarvis-Approved)
A strong 6-month GCSE revision plan runs: Month 1 syllabus mapping, Month 2 topic-by-topic recall, Month 3 first past papers, Month 4 mock tests, Month 5 fixing weaknesses, Month 6 exam-technique drilling and rest.
Month 1 — Map the syllabus
Print your official specification (AQA, Edexcel, OCR). Rate every topic RAG (red/amber/green). This map guides the next 5 months.
Month 2 — Topic-by-topic recall
Convert each red topic into flashcards. Aim for 30 minutes per subject per day. Jarvis auto-generates flashcards from any topic name.
Month 3 — First past papers (open book)
Do the most recent past paper open-book, in your own time. This teaches you the marking style, not just the content.
Month 4 — Timed mocks
One full timed mock per subject per fortnight. Jarvis marks and identifies your weakest question types across all attempts.
Month 5 — Fix weaknesses
Now the RAG map earns its keep. Take your bottom 3 topics per subject and spend 45 minutes on each until they turn green.
Month 6 — Exam technique + rest
Two timed papers per week. One rest day per week. Sleep is not optional — it is where memory consolidates.
Frequently asked
When should GCSE revision start?
November of Year 11 is ideal for a 6-month plan. Starting in March still works if you follow a compressed version of the same structure.
How many past papers should I do?
Aim for the last 5 years of papers per subject. That is roughly 10 papers each — more than enough for pattern recognition.
